Let your husband lead

These are 10 ways to allow your husband to be a leader:

1. Pray for your husband daily. The apostle Paul tells us to "not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God." (Philippians 4:6)

2. Hold your tongue. Check to see if you are the one doing all the talking. If so, try to see what happens when you are silent. "When words are many, sin is not absent, but he who holds his tongue is wise." (Proverbs 10:19)

3. Watch your tongue. Be sure to never criticize, ridicule or speak negatively of your husband to anyone. Don't bad mouth him to your mother, your friends or your children. Even if he is dead wrong. Do not correct him in public. If you do need to correct him in private, do so in a loving and caring manner.

4. Do not use scripture in anger. The Word of God is a double edge sword that is useful in defending Satan's attacks. However, it can backfire when you try to use it in an argument with someone you love. If you feel compelled to share God's Word with your husband, pray through those words first. Then, share them in truth and in love.

5. Praise him. When your husband does something good, praise him profusely. Don’t worry about the times when you've done the same thing and weren't praised. Lay aside your pride and encourage him by positive motivation.

6. Be supportive. Let him know that you stand by him and the decisions that he makes. As he grows into his leadership role, be sure to support and encourage his efforts.

7. Stop nagging! Nagging can only bring negativity and resentment to your relationship. Proverbs 19:13 tells us that "a quarrelsome wife is like a constant dripping."

8. Smile. Affirm your husband's decisions with a smiling face. Even if you don't agree with him, show support of his leadership.

9. Let go of expectations. It is not your job to change your husband's heart. Allow God to work with his life in His way, in His time. Love your husband for who he is now, not for who you would like him to be.

10. Work on your own relationship with God. Keep praying. Keep studying His Word. Keep attending worship. Jesus challenges us in the Sermon on the Mound not to judge others. He says, "Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother's eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye?" (Matthew 7:3)

God is truly amazing and faithful. If your heart's desire is for your husband to be the spiritual leader of your family, then give that desire over to the Lord. It may take time, but you will be amazed by the results. God "is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine".(Ephesians 3:20)
